Update #4

What a great God we serve! We are so humbled thankful and beyond amazed by the blessings pouring from the Father yesterday and today.

Jorge's surgery went really, really well. He didn't get into surgery until just after noon. He was only in surgery for about 4 hours. The doctor said they removed all of the visible tumor. We are so very thankful for this surpise from God as we were only expecting 75-80%. God is good!

In recovery his breathing tube was removed and he's been breathing on his own since. Again, another praise that is only creditable to our God. By last night he was attempting communication and somewhat alert.

This morning, this is what our God does...
Bless the Lord oh my soul! We are amazed by His greatness! Less than 24 hours after surgery. God is great!

We will keep everyone updated as far as when Jorge will be able to come home and what is next. For now:

Please pray:
- for continual recovery and strength.
- for ease from pain or discomfort.
- for peace in his heart and mind and encouragement as he recovers.
- for encouragement for his brother, family here and in Guatemala.
- for God to be glorified and magnified here in Richmond, at Duke, and abroad in the different areas that Jorge's story has been heard!

The Lord has done great things for us; we are glad. Psalms 126:3

Update #2

Happy Sunday Evening!

It has been another fantastic week for Jorge and his recovery! We can not stop praising the Father for His continued faithfulness in Jorge's life and recovery! What a gift for us to be able to watch from a front row seat.

There isn't much to update on the recovery side of things. There is more to update in regards to treatment. After the consultation with the doctors at Duke two weeks ago Jorge has made the decision to have the second surgery. In short this is what was recommended for treatment and recovery in the long run. We are yet unsure what all will play out in this surgery. Much like the first surgery, we don't really know what we are dealing with. The doctor felt comfortable going into remove about 75 - 80% of the remaining tumor. Once he is recovered from surgery, the plan is for radiation to take care of the rest.

Jorge will travel to Duke on Tuesday and go through all of the pre-op meetings and appointments. Surgery is set for Wednesday.

Please continue to pray! We are so thankful and excited to watch the impossible things God is doing in and through him!

Pray:
-For safe traveling to Duke on Tuesday.
-For God's peace to surround him as he prepares for surgery.
-For the doctors preforming the surgery. Pray for precision, guidance, wisdom, and that God would be introduced to them if they do not already know Him in a personal and real way.
-For all of Jorge's family in Guatemala and here in Richmond.
-For those helping him to be able to know what he needs and when.
-For recovery after surgery.

Be checking the facebook page for updates on Tuesday and Wednesday. This site will be updated daily but for frequent updates be sure to head to facebook!

Welcome Home Celebration Dinner!
Welcome Home Celebration Dinner!
In spite of the news he has received from various doctors and locations the last several weeks Jorge has stayed positive and encouraged. God has blessed him with peace and strength as he has faced each trial. Jorge knows that God is working everything out for his good to bring God glory.

So much has happened, so here is a brief update to bring you up to speed!

Jorge's recovery after surgery has gone really well. It seemed long but the doctors, nurses, and therapists were all encouraged and happy with his progress. One day shy of 1 month in the hospital, we welcomed Jorge home on September 28th! We were able to fix a dinner of his choice and spend a few hours celebrating him being home!
Since being home, he has continued to progress with his recovery, gaining strength and weight! We are so thankful. What a Great Doctor our God is!

We have learned the name for what is going on inside of Jorge. The official name is: Anaplastic Hemagiopericytoma. In terms that most can understand: it is a soft tissue cancer that is primarily feeding on the lining of the blood vessels. It was a fast growing tumor. Several of Jorge’s doctors have been sure to express to us just how rare this cancer is, but beyond that it is more rare as a brain tumor. In all of this we stay confident that God is so much bigger than this.

Since the diagnosis, we have met with a radiation oncologist and oncologist. Both referred Jorge to a specialist at Duke University Medical Center for a second evaluation. Jorge just returned from a 3-day stay meeting with various doctors and specialists and further testing. We are seeking the wisdom of all of Jorge’s doctors now to help us make the best decision possible as we continue to treatment.

Please continue to pray! Here are some ways you can do so specifically.
